THE TIN CAN TUMBLE
.
Recently while on a trip to Vancouver, BC., Canada, I got the opportunity to attend the first Annual Tin Can Tumble. Now being a music freak I wasn't going to pass this up. This was a local music event featuring local bands, The Tumbleweeds; The Tabloids and Shag the Band.
The Tumbleweeds were a Country / Rock band doing covers of Johnny Cash & Elvis among others. The Elvis classic "Suspicious Minds" was the stand out for me, However trying to take photographs when the audience is jumping and the floor was actually bouncing, as a photographer it's just another day at the office, just make sure you get the shots!
The Tabloids were billed as Vancouvers best UK pop/rock band. No argument from this guy... however full disclosure - I'm old enough to remember when "Ballroom Blitz" came out, and I'm not talking about the Waynes World version from 1992 ... I'm talking about the original Chart topper by British glam-rock band The Sweet that was released in 1973. The Tabloids were giving me Eight Track Flashbacks to the 70's & 80's when music was fun to listen to and sing along....
Finishing up the night was a set by "Shag the Band" who also covered songs from the 70's 80's and 90's. Billed as a Party Rock Band they had everyone moving on the dance floor - Especially when it came to "taking a jump to the left; and then a step to the right; Put your hands on your hips" ... you know the rest...
I hope the Tin Can Tumble becomes an annual fixture in East Vancouver. As the song goes..."Todays music ain't got the same soul... I like that old time rock and roll" - Bob Seger isn't wrong. Thanks to all the bands and everyone involved in putting this event together.
The photographs below were made at the first Annual "Tin Can Tumble" held on June 17th at the
